Terms of Service
Last updated:
The short version: measuring is free, and the priced .xlsx quote export is what Pro pays for. Your plans, measurements, and prices stay in your browser — we never receive them. You pay through Paddle (our merchant of record), get a license key, and can cancel anytime. If Pro ends, the app falls back to the free plan and everything stored in your browser stays exactly where it is.
1. Who we are
TakeoffQuote is operated by Yifeng Jiang (individual). In these terms, "we" and "us" mean the operator of the website takeoffquote.com and the TakeoffQuote application. You can reach us at support@takeoffquote.com.
2. What the service is
TakeoffQuote is browser-based construction takeoff and quoting. The measurement engine is OpenTakeoff, an open-source engine (Apache-2.0) by Kentucky AI; the quote layer is built by TakeoffQuote. The application runs in your browser: plan rendering, measurement, and quote math happen locally on your device, not on our servers.
3. Free plan and Pro
- Free — unlimited measuring: sheets, projects, measurements, exports of your takeoff data, with no watermark. Binding trade assemblies and previewing the priced quote are free too.
- Pro (paid subscription) — downloading the priced, grouped .xlsx quote export.
We may evolve what each plan includes as the product develops. Whatever changes, the work stored in your browser remains yours and remains local — see the Privacy Policy.
4. Your content stays on your device
Plan files, takeoffs, unit prices, and quotes are processed and stored locally in your browser (IndexedDB and localStorage). We do not receive, store, or back up your content, which also means we cannot recover it for you — use Export takeoff… to keep backups of anything that matters (how storage works).
If you enable the optional shared-folder sync, your project files are stored in a folder in your own cloud storage account that you choose and authorize. That storage is governed by your agreement with that provider; we do not operate it and cannot access it.
5. Payments, subscriptions, and license keys
- Payments are processed by Paddle (paddle.com), acting as merchant of record — you buy from Paddle, and Paddle handles checkout, billing, sales tax, and receipts. Your card number goes to Paddle, never to us.
- A Pro purchase issues a license key (format
TQ-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX). Enter it in any browser or on any device you work on — the key is tied to your purchase, not to one machine. - The key is your access credential: keep it for your own use and don't publish or resell it. Shared or leaked keys may be revoked.
- If you lose your key, email support@takeoffquote.com from the email you used at checkout (it's the one on your Paddle receipt) and we'll get it back to you.
- Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. You can cancel anytime; Pro stays active until the end of the period you've paid for.
- Refunds are covered by our Refund Policy — 14 days, no questions asked.
- When a subscription ends or a payment is refunded, the license key is revoked and the app falls back to the free plan. Your local data and all free features are unaffected.
6. Acceptable use
Don't use the service for anything unlawful, don't attempt to disrupt or overload the payment and license endpoints, and don't misrepresent who produced an export. That's the whole list — the product is a tool, and we intend to keep the rules boring.
7. Open source and third-party services
- OpenTakeoff — the measurement engine is licensed under Apache-2.0; that license governs the engine code itself.
- Optional AI and voice assist — bring-your-own: requests go directly from your browser to an endpoint you configure with your own API key, under your agreement with that provider. Voice input is processed in your browser and never uploaded. Nothing routes through us.
- Paddle (payments, as merchant of record), Cloudflare (hosting and cookieless analytics), and Sentry (scrubbed error reports) — exactly what each sees is laid out in the Privacy Policy.
8. Estimating disclaimer
TakeoffQuote is an estimating aid, not a substitute for professional judgment. Scales can be mis-detected, plans can be wrong, and a quote is only as good as its inputs. You are responsible for verifying measurements, quantities, prices, and totals before relying on them in a bid or contract.
9. Warranties and liability
The service is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement. To the maximum extent permitted by law, our total liability for any claim arising out of the service is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim arose. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain exclusions or limits; where that's the case, these apply only as far as the law permits, and nothing here removes consumer rights that can't be waived.
10. Changes
We may update the service and these terms. Material changes will be posted on this page with a new "Last updated" date; continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the People's Republic of China, where the operator is based. Note that when you buy Pro, your purchase contract is with Paddle as merchant of record, so purchase-related disputes are governed by Paddle's Buyer Terms. Nothing in this section affects mandatory consumer protections that apply where you live.
12. Contact
Questions about these terms: support@takeoffquote.com — it reaches the developer directly.
