Conditions — what you're measuring

A condition is one named thing you're taking off — a slab, a footing run, a wall type, a fixture — and it's what every measurement commits into. Each condition carries its own waste %, colors and hatch pattern, and two geometry fields: H (height, for wall SF) and T (thickness, for border SF from a linear run).

Creating and arming

+ condition (in the Takeoffs panel or the palette band) prompts for a tag — SOG-4, FTG-24, CMU-8, whatever your bid calls it — and mints the condition with an auto-rotated color and hatch. A fresh workspace seeds a starter set you can rename or delete. Pin your working set to the palette band under the toolbar: number keys 1–9 arm palette conditions in order, so switching conditions never needs the mouse.

The ☰ Takeoffs panel lists every condition with live totals for the open sheets (SF · SF wall · LF · EA), a shape count, and a ⌖ that zooms the canvas to the condition’s takeoffs.

The fields

  • Tag — rename in place; every report row and quote line resolves the condition by its tag.
  • × multiplier — measure one identical unit, count it N times. Shows as ×N everywhere and multiplies every quantity.
  • Waste % — the allowance the Report adds on top of the measured quantity. Per condition, matched to the work. The measured number is never inflated: waste lives only in the w/Waste column, so the takeoff and the order stay honest about which is which. The quote builder has its own per-assembly waste presets on top.
  • Line color, fill color (or no fill), hatch pattern, line style — how the condition draws on canvas and in the Marked Set PDF. A picker grid of CAD hatches keeps the canvas reading like the real drawing.
  • H (height, ft) — the default height for new Surface Area traces: wall SF = traced LF × H. Existing walls keep the height they were drawn at; select a wall to override just that one.
  • T (thickness, in) — a Linear run with thickness also computes SF = LF × T⁄12: curbs, borders, strips, anything priced by the foot but ordered by the square foot. Changing T re-flows existing runs.

Deleting — read the confirm

Deleting a condition that owns shapes asks first — “Delete 〈TAG〉 and its N takeoff(s)? This can’t be undone.” — and means it: the cascade is deliberately outside the undo stack. Reassigning is gentler: select a shape and click another condition’s row to move it, quantities and all.
